Year7The Years 7 and 8 Program covers the Learning domains in a variety of ways.

Religious Education

Religious Education is seen as a vital part of educating the whole person at Sacred Heart College.

In year 7, students work through the Sandhurst Catholic Education Office “Source of Life” units: How do we belong? Communities at Prayer, How do we celebrate and The Covenant Unfolds. In these units students learn about their own place within church and the school community, how we can connect to God and how the stories of the Bible reveal God’s connection to us.

In year 8, students continue the “Source of Life” units: The Church through time, Making a difference, Jesus the human face of God and Religion and difference. In these units students learn about Jesus and his “reign of God,” the Church’s role in bringing about that vision and how each of us individually contribute to the common good.

English and Humanities

EnglishAndHumanitiesInsight principally integrates the discipline-based learning domains of English and Humanities. Learning is organised around themes which allow for genuine connections to be made between the content and skills across the discipline-based domains as well as naturally provide for the integration of the interdisciplinary domains of Communication, ICT and Thinking.

Mathematics

Mathematics provides students with skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Our mathematics program is aimed towards developing the numeracy capabilities that all students need in their personal, work and civic life.

Science

Science

Science provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of important science concepts and processes and the practices used to develop scientific knowledge. Our science program, through investigation and experimentation leads students to a clearer understanding of science’s contribution to our culture and society, and its applications in our lives.

 Arts and Technology (ARTECH)

The Arts are unique, expressive, creative and communicative forms that engage students in critical and creative thinking and help them understand themselves and the world.

The Arts encourage the development of skills and the exploration of technologies, forms and processes through single and multimodal forms.

The Arts and Technology programs provide for experience in the following areas:

  • Dance and Drama;
  • Visual Art;
  • Food Technology;
  • Materials—Wood.

Languages other than English

Learning a language nurtures reflective, deep and creative thinking in specific ways, cultivates culturally distinctive fields of knowledge, and stimulates awareness of intellectual functioning. At Sacred Heart College we continue the Japanese program begun at Sacred Heart Primary. Students can then elect to do further studies in Japanese in their remaining school years.

Physical Education, Health and Personal Development

The Health and Physical Education domain provides students with knowledge, skill and behaviours to enable them to achieve a degree of autonomy in developing and maintaining their physical, mental, social and emotional health. This domain focuses on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and physical activity in the lives of individuals and groups in our society. The excellent local amenities, school grounds and multi-purpose building provide ample space and opportunity for students to develop in this domain.
