Founded in 1963, Sacred Heart College has been providing innovative and highly effective secondary education, supported by the Catholic faith and values, within the Yarrawonga region for over 50 years.
However, the face of education at the College has changed significantly over the past few years. The College has completed the transition to Year 12, finalised the building of new learning areas and ‘state of the art’ specialist facilities and now operates dedicated campuses for the middle and senior years of schooling.
One of the precious attributes of Sacred Heart College is that it is a close-knit community of staff, students and parents who are connected, engaged and motivated by their passion for the school and for learning.
This was clearly demonstrated during our most recent validation audit. The validation panel assessed the College against seven Catholic Education quality standards by talking to both students and staff, and examining our practices.
The panel members were overwhelmed by the passion for learning exhibited by both students and staff. The panel members commended us on our innovative middle school and Learning Advisor programs. They were also impressed by the high aspirations expressed by our students both in terms of their learning here, as well as their career goals.
The College provides alternative options to suit those with different interests and learning styles. This includes a full academic program leading to completion of Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or a full applied learning program leading to the completion of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Additionally, vocational education programs can be included in VCAL or VCE programs.
The school provides innovative programs to suit each level of development, including:
- an intensive literacy and numeracy program in Years 7-8
- an engaging and empowering program for Year 9 students, including the Northern Territory experience
- Years 10-12 with opportunities for self-directed learning and accelerated progression as students work towards achieving their Year 12 certificate.
The first Sacred Heart College Year 12 class graduated in 2012 with outstanding results in both VCE and VCAL. While the VCAL program is a recent addition to the College’s program, it has received recognition for excellence from the accrediting body two years in a row for its Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills programs.
These results are testament to the College teaching team’s absolute commitment to making our learning and teaching programs engaging and motivating for its students. The outcome is a group of young people who are confident, aspirational young adults set to embark on the career of their choice.
