Catholic Education Yarrawonga (CEY)
Catholic Education Yarrawonga has been formed by the principals and Board chairs of Sacred Heart Primary School and Sacred Heart College. CEY’s purpose is to support a coordinated approach from prep through to Year 12 for the Yarrawonga community well into the future. While CEY is a relatively new initiative, it formalizes the long-standing relationship between the two schools. For example, there has been a long-standing understanding that all Sacred Heart Primary School students enjoy priority guaranteed entry to the College.
We constantly identify opportunities to link the schools together throughout the year, including combined Mass and joint celebrations such as Sacred Heart Day. This years Sacred Heart Day celebration had a record attendance of one thousand people.
CEY's purpose is to explore the future needs for education provision in the region. This includes not only understanding the needs in terms of bricks and mortar, but also the more immediate needs of the school community. CEY is particularly concerned with underpinning a coordinated approach to visibly improving academic outcomes for our region.
The two schools have developed a highly successful transition program beggining at year 5. This ensures that the year 6 students are very familiar with the College before their first day of Year 7. Teachers from the two schools have a very close relationship that ensures that the year 7 teachers understand the individual needs of all students as they emerge from the Primary School. An extremely helpful testing program is utilized in both years to assist our teachers in highlighting areas where students can be further helped to succeed.
