lew.nagleI am proud to be Principal of Sacred Heart College, which over the past 50 years has become an integral part of the Yarrawonga and district community. The College takes great pride in playing its part in producing well-rounded, aspirational, confident young people ready to embark on their career.

To that end, the College is constantly striving to evolve and improve our provision of high quality education for our students. All of our teaching staff are engaged in developing and implementing innovative approaches to educating our young people that are backed up by well-respected research. Our teaching teams undertake significant professional development each year with experts in our field in order to bring contemporary skill and knowledge into the class room and into our students educational lives.

The College recently underwent an audit of our Learning and Teaching programs. The auditors spoke to students, staff and other members of our community. They were most impressed by the high aspirations expressed by our students and the fact that being at a school in a regional setting does not in any way hamper those aspirations.

The College’s mission is to educate the whole person. Our Catholic identity and values are at the centre of our ability to do that. While religious education is an important part of our program, our students experience the sacrament and life giving in a myriad of ways throughout their daily life at the College. Whether it is participating in a special celebratory mass, or participating in our Caritas activity of carrying a bucket of water from Chinaman’s Island back to the school, or participating in our Social Justice group’s activities, our students are encouraged to contemplate and develop empathy with the lives of others.

Pastoral support is provided in a range of ways to all students. But the backbone of the College’s student support is the Learning Advisor program that ensures each student has a teacher they can depend on for mentoring and guidance on a daily basis.

Our programs are designed to offer something for every learning style, capability and goals. While our academic programs are very strong, the College also takes great pride in its outstanding manual and applied learning environments. The College has extremely well equipped engineering and construction workshops. And one of the newest additions to the campus, has been the Allied Health Rehabilitation Gym. This provides an industry-simulated environment that introduces health-focused careers to our students, meeting a high industry need for this region. Our students complete VET certificates alongside their VCE. The College also offers a highly regarded VCAL program as an alternative stream to VCE.

Graduate outcomes are vital to mark our success. Last year, every Sacred Heart College Year 12 graduate who applied through VTAC, obtained a university offer, with over half of those obtaining their first option. In addition, one of our VCAL students obtained entry into the university course of her choice.

Our Vision is to be a welcoming Christian community devoted to educating the whole person whilst striving to be always faithful to its Catholic and Mercy heritage. Underpinning that are our Graduate Outcomes, which we all live by as we endeavour to provide a strong and complete education for our students.

If you were to observe the College in action – you would be struck by the close-knit community environment throughout. Students are encouraged to build relationships across different years and with teaching staff as mentors and supporters. The result is a group of young people who are confident, emerging young adults set to embark on the career of their choice.

I welcome your interest in Sacred Heart College and look forward to discussing your child’s future with us in the near future.
